I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I stayed there for college and my masters, moved to beautiful Ann Arbor, MI for my PhD, and am now back in San Diego lecturing at San Diego State University. I have an amazingly supportive husband named Dan, and two little boys, both of whom were born during my PhD: my 7 year old won the internet when he was 10 months old with a viral video, and my 2.5 year old has the best smile and a wicked sense of humor.
My dissertation project was on determiner phrases and their distributions in English. Determiners are my favorite, and I love thinking about them in terms of their pragmatic and sociolinguistic properties. I am also an avid reader of theology and am particularly interested in questions related to cross-linguistic translations and interpretations of scriptures that deal with definiteness (in English), in languages that do not have definite markers.
In my spare time, I like to cook, play piano and guitar, knit, and teach Jazzercise. I enjoy few things more than a good conversation over coffee/tea. COVID quarantine has also turned me into a bread maker; I've baked nearly 100 loaves since the onset of the pandemic! Add in all the other pandemic baking I've done, and I have baked through nearly 150lbs of flour.
